- Use of lights as appropriate to varying conditions:
- Rain; sleet; snow and fog/mist.
- Shadows and effects on your vision
- Bright light e.g. Winter sun. Wet roads and the suns reflection. Oily roads and recognition
of same (rainbow effect on wet road).
Skidding and avoidance:
- Drivers’ health (contributing factor).
- Road conditions and road surface
- Aquaplaning
- Skid prevention: effective braking and effects of ABS, ESP; EBD.
- Skid correction
- Use of steering and controls
- Tyres, condition and their tread (legal tread depth and implication of reduced stopping
distances).
- Vehicles footprint and drivers ability to recognise same (familiarity of car from
driver).

Correct speed for the conditions
Safe separation for speed and conditions
Braking distances

High winds and compensating for them:
o Their effects on high sided vehicles and the associated implications to you as
a driver.
